Electrostatic Technology Overview

What Is Electrostatic Technology?

Electrostatic technology is an innovative solution that businesses rely on to meet the increased demands for disinfection, and to reinforce trust and confidence with their visitors and customers. Electrostatic sprayers, together with trusted solutions, can disinfect and sanitize spaces large and small in far less time than would be required when using manual trigger spray and wiping methods.

How does it work?

Electrostatic technology works by charging liquid droplets as they pass through a sprayer nozzle. The resulting charged droplets actively seek out surfaces and get attached to them. Electrostatic sprayers are engineered to treat high-touch areas more quickly and efficiently with the convenience of touchless coverage.

NOTE: Electrostatic devices may apply either a positive or negative charge to liquid droplets; the above is intended to provide a generic illustration of how electrostatic technology works and is not intended to represent any particular device.

Not All Sprayers Are Created Equal

As with any product or technology, there are many considerations when evaluating electrostatic sprayers for use in your facility. The efficacy of an electrostatic sprayer is determined by a combination of factors, including power delivered to the device, type of nozzle, droplet size and spray solution.

Can any solution be sprayed through an electrostatic sprayer?

No, only EPA-registered disinfectants or sanitizers that have electrostatic spraying listed as an approved application method on the label should be used through electrostatic sprayers. Each disinfectant must be tested to ensure that the levels of product emitted into the air are below established limits. CloroxPro has rigorously tested to ensure the safety and compatibility of each Clorox® product that is registered for use with electrostatic sprayer devices.

Does microefficacy need to be evaluated when using an EPA-registered disinfectant through an electrostatic sprayer?

Yes, evaluation of how well a solution kills microorganisms, such as bacteria and viruses, when passed through an electrostatic sprayer is necessary to confirm the expected microefficacy.

How do electrostatic sprayers compare to other spray technologies?

Unlike foggers and misters, electrostatic disinfectant droplets are charged, which means that electrostatic sprayers can cover more surfaces in less time. Electrostatic sprayers deliver larger electrostatically charged droplets that are actively attracted to surfaces, regardless of the direction of spray.

Which electrostatic sprayer is right for my facility?

Our electrostatic sprayer portfolio is designed for use in a variety of environments to help keep public spaces safer and healthier. Depending on your facility needs, there are different electrostatic sprayers available.

In larger spaces where groups of people may gather (like a classroom or office), a corded electrostatic device like the Clorox® Total 360® Electrostatic Sprayer offers stronger levels of electrostatic disinfection with superior coverage. These devices are designed to be used for extended periods to disinfect larger-capacity areas.
