Infection-causing pathogens are present on surfaces in healthcare facilties. Pathogens such as C. difficile spores, MRSA, and VRE can survive on surfaces for as long as several months and can transfer to and from people, posing the risk of infection transmission.
Patients admitted to rooms previously housing C. diff patients are two times more likely to acquire a C. diff infection of their own.
